Shimano STEPS Sensors

W011

No speed signal from speed sensor

The system is not receiving a bicycle speed signal from the speed sensor. Because the system cannot verify the riding speed, the maximum speed up to which assist is provided is lowered. The usual cause is a shifted spoke magnet or a wrongly positioned or disconnected sensor.

Roadside self-help

  1. Check that the spoke magnet sits directly opposite the sensor and has not rotated away; realign it if needed.
  2. Restart the system after correcting the magnet position.
  3. If the warning remains, have the sensor mounting and wiring checked by a dealer.

How to read e-bike error codes

Unlike cars (OBD-II), e-bike codes are manufacturer-specific: the same number means something different on a Bosch than on a Shimano system. What matters is always the combination of drive system and code.
